Olivares Vivos: A commitment beyond Provence

This year, 1,200 liters of extra virgin olive oil were selected from the producer O-Med/Venchipa near Granada, Andalusia. This selection supports the “Olivares Vivos” initiative, a group of Mediterranean producers who defend their territory and whose main objective is to certify olive groves that work for biodiversity.

Reconciling culture and biodiversity

On our can of Extra Virgin olive oil is the logo “OLIVARES VIVOS” taking the features of an owl. The latter certifies that this oil is the result of work that respects the biodiversity present on the production site.

The olive groves holding the latter are attached to the LIFE program coordinated by SEO/BirdLife. A program aimed at establishing and certifying a profitable olive cultivation model compatible with the conservation of biodiversity and positioning this model as a recognized profitable added value in the olive oil market. A virtuous circle between agriculture and the richness of the fauna present in the heart of the olive groves, one allowing the other to flourish and vice versa.

O-Med is above all a family saga telling the story of the Garcia Casa family over generations and their predispositions for olive cultivation.

It is in Acula, Spain, that the olive grove culminates at 700 meters above sea level, on the western flank of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Their priority? The excellence of oils and vinegars. Juan de Dios Garcia Molina, third of his generation, has worked with pugnacity so that the fourth generation, currently in charge, can perpetuate his dream.

Paula and Juan combine a spirit of innovation and new technologies while maintaining ancestral traditional know-how. Thanks to the region’s climate and the harvest at the optimal moment of fruit maturity, they obtain homogeneous productions of indisputable quality of the arbequina, hojiblanca and picual varieties through integrated agriculture, respectful of the environment.

They are at the origin of virtuous initiatives: the incinerator where the pits of the olives are burned and which produces 40% of the energy necessary for the operation of the mill is proof of this!

In 2013, O-MED went further and participated in the creation of the QV Extra association, bringing together international producers and aiming to support consumers in developing their knowledge of Extra Virgin olive oils.

Since 2022, Maison Brémond 1830 has supported O-MED in its commitments.

We appreciate their work for all the exemplarity it sets in terms of respect for the environment and product quality. Their drip system is powered by solar panels, state-of-the-art equipment allows them to analyze and be perfectly in tune with the land they are given to cultivate, the advanced methods of oil storage of olive offers to the latter to be preserved better and longer, the oil mill has, for its part, been designed in a sustainable way by taking advantage of its exposure and its sunshine (thus avoiding any over-consumption of electricity) . Finally, O-MED also oversees the recovery of rainwater.
